What Does Elevated GGT Levels In Liver Indicate?
Question: What does it mean if i have elevated GGT to 112 but my AST and ALT is only a little above normal? No health problems, dont drink at all, live on protein and veges and drink 3L of water a day. No processed sugars. Its a mystery. Dr says dont worry about it but GGT keeps going up over last three years...
Brief Answer:
More tests
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Your doctor is right. If there is no ast and alt elevation nor bilirubin elevation then you should not be worried. Ggt is increased in some other conditions,in smoker in people on certain diet and medication. You should just do liver ultrasound to be sure there is no fatty liver and check ggt in few weeks. Wish you good health. Regards

Ok thank you, so ive previously had elevated ast and alt by about double normal range, but this is on way down and ast is now completely normal. And alt is around 70. I had an ultrasound and it looked normal apparently. I am a smoker, intermittant. Can smoke a packet a day or nothing for months at a time. Depends on stress levels. Triglycerides and cholestoral are normal. All kidney tests are ok too.
