What Does Intermittent Pain When Diagnosed With Kidney Stone Suggest?
Last Saturday I was in the ER with a Kidney Stone. It's about 6mm long and 4mm wide shaped kind of like a tear drop from the MRI.
I've been drinking tons of water. The pain has been on and off with today having no pain for almost 12 hours? Does this mean the stone is stuck?
Is there any way of knowing or even guessing where the stone is along the ureter without at CAT Scan? I'd like avoid surgery if possible - but have no idea if this thing as moved an inch from last Saturday or not?
The pain or soreness I should say, at the moment is in my right testicle and my lower right side, but nothing that needs pain meds.
Thanks for your time,

The stone has probably moved down to U,V.Junction
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been diagnosed to have Kidney stone of a size of 6x4 mm .
The pain in abdomen or loin due to impacted stone is not due to stone itself per se but is is due to distention of ureter and kidney secondary to stagnation of urine in the ureter and kidney proximal to stone what is called as Hydronephrosis. The movement the stone gets dislodged free flow of urine down into bladder is restored and pain subsides .This process of waxing and waning of pain goes on till the stone is passed down into bladder and may take a week .
.
Normally the stone of a size of up to 8 mm pass down spontaneously and does not need any active intervention. It is just a matter of time
Since you have soreness in testicle and and site of the pain has shifted down into lower abdomen it is most likely that the stone has moved down and got stuck up at Uretero Vesical Junction .(UVJ)
This can be confirmed by doing Ultrasound Scanning of the abdomen and pelvis.
In the mean while continue taking medication and drinking more water .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
