Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi I am a 40 year old male..I recently had a CT scan of a mass that showed up on an mri I had done and the report reads the following: Impression: Solitary necrotic 1.8cm lymph node level I right lateral neck of unclear etiology or clinical significance. Differential diagnosis include but are not limited to reactive adenopathy secondary to nonspecific infectious or inflammatory process versus metastatic adenoma thy versus lymphoma. Only shoddy lymph nodes are noted elsewhere in the neck. There are no other dominant masses or focal fluid collection...Please tell me what does this all mean..do I have cancer or something bad going on?

Brief Answer:
don't panic. do the following tests and get back

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Sorry to hear that but don't panic. You have to undergo an excision biopsy of the node and a CT scan of the chest and abdomen and some blood tests like a complete hemogram, liver and kidney function tests, serum LDH which will give us a clue to the nature of the problem. Please get back with these reports. Based on these results further tests can be planned. All the best!
