What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?
It means impaired blood flow towards the lungs.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.
It means in simple words that blood flow is not good in the blood vessels taking blood from heart to the lungs, the CT scan could not show any blood clots blocking these vessels but still there was bad blood flow.
This can be due to Atherosclerosis, calcification due to age related changes , pulmonary hypertension or vasculitis(inflammation of the vessles).
This being said, I would like you to tell me more details about your problem this will help me to make up a good idea of what you can be having and I will be able to guide you further.
I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.
Regards.
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.
General and Family Physician..
So am a bit confused by your response.I have a little raised cholesterol and have a non alcohol fatty liver. Am not on any medication, but I do take vitamins . I do not drink alcohol or smoke and have increased my activity level. I take lots of polyphenol type red fruits and vegetables.
The scan was due to a nasty chest infection when I coughed up a tiny amount of blood. As I had just travelled a long way by air, the Docors wanted to exclude a pulmonary embolism. Hence the scan.
CT scan with and without contrast have sometimes opposite meaning
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
Thanks for writng back, there are two types of CT scans and both have different and rather opposite meanings to opcaification.
1) Simple CT scan chest: Which i considered it was(as you did not mention any contrast injection in your question , not knowing it's purpose may be) , in this CT scan opacification along artery usually means calcium deposits which glow in the dark back ground we say artery is opacified. These deposits are common aftwr 60 years of age on patients with high calcium or any other problems and these are bad news.
2) CTPA : This is done with a contrast injection in your vessels, in this CT scan opacification of arteries is a good news, this is opposite to the CT scan chest.
This is why i mentioned about the possibilties which could be there to cause opacification in a chest CT but i did ask you about the cause of the CT scan to get to know which specific reason was there to get the CT scan done , in this way i also wanted to know the type of CT scan you went through,so that i could answer you specifically.
I didn't directly call it a normal as there would have been no reason to ask about need of CT scan after calling it a normal, so after your response i know that you suffered from above mentioned symptoms and doctor wanted to rule out Pulmonary embolism and you had CT chest with contrast , in CT with contrast opacification of artery is a good news and it means that blood flow is un harmed. This is exactly opposite to CT scan chest(without contrast) , no contrast and reason of scan was mentioned by you so I took enough care to ask you for detail and telling you red flag signs before calling it a normal CT.
In short: Your arteries are clear and there is no problem with blood flown If that were a CT without comtrast there would have been problem.
I hope now your confusion has been alleviated , have a great weekend.
Regards.
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.
