What Does My ECG Report Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: Å quick question
Will a telemetry the kind of 4 point ecg you get after beeing admitted to hospital for monitoring over night pick up small pauses like av blocks?
Reason for asking is that one of the wires fell off and was off for 20 minutes without anyone reacting to it. They Said they got a call from up stairs if something was wrong. Should think that a wire coming off was reason to check on patient?
Had some symptoms from chest area during this night with telemetry on but all they Said was sinus rythm all night. They Said they checked the specific times i had symptoms but im starting to doubt them.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back to HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that telemetry is an exam which is used to register your heart rate and store this registrations for a certain period of time.

It is not a problem if a wire has fallen because other wires have registered your heart rate during those moments.

In this test, different wires and channels are used to avoid the possibility of mistakes for a wire misplacement or movement. So, there is nothing to worry about!

These small incidents are supposed to occur during this test and they do not interfere with the test result.

So, if the doctors have told you that it was sinus rhythm, it means that nothing serious is going on. They have excluded any possible cardiac arrhythmia during this period.

There is no reason to doubt on them, because they can tell what they see. This fallen wire, does not make any change to the test results.

A wire coming off is not a problem during the test, considering that it does not interfere with the end results.

If you have any other uncertainties, please do not hesitate to ask me!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

Thank you
So that means if i had pauses even smaller than 2.5 seconds, they would see them on telemetry?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Yes, they would detect these pauses if they were present.

But, it seems that they have not been present, as they have not reported them.

So, relax!

Your situation does not seem to be really concerning!

Your tests have not shown anything abnormal.

I remain at your disposal if you have any other uncertainties!

Regards,

Dr. Iliri
