Question: The official results say:
This is a 16 channel eeg recording w additional channel for EKG monitoring. Bipolar montages utilized. During the initial portion of the record the pt was awake and there was much movement and myogenic artifact. Readable portions of the record reveal 4-5 per second posterior and central rhythm with lower voltage frontal mixed theta and alpha activity. The pt remains awake or drowsy. No epileptiform activity noted.
Brief Answer:
Probably brain reversible hypoxia
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
your child EEG report shows that there is no evidence of epileptics seizure.
Second, those alpha and especially theta wave shows for brain hypoxia due to strong metabolic changes or infections.
Blood test can help to exlude infections.I think the cause of that situation can be hypoxia which is reversible.
I would recommend to be carefull and monitore hemodynamics parameters ( such as blood tension, oxygen saturation).
Those changes will needs time to disappear , so no further EEG is needed at least for one week.
It is reccomended that a brain MRI is done to see for brain edema.
Anyway as you baby is stable now I don't think you have reason to worry because things will go better hours after hours!

Brief Answer:
No abnormality
Detailed Answer:
Dear
you have to explain the reason why you undertake an EEG.
If your child has no symptoms at all it can be a normal EEG.
It is important to explain me the clinical symptoms of your child.
As I told you a brain MR need to be done!
If that result normal you should be happy because your child is healthy!
Hope I have helped you

So he had an EEG done to rule out possible absence seizures. He had several questionable episodes so we wanted to be sure. He also can do some odd behavioral things due to his multiple sensory impairments. We were trying to figure out if maybe it was just that. See, he has a history of CHARGE syndrome. My question is that the chief complaint on his EEG was history of cHARGe, full term infant. This was incorrect. The chief complaint should have been possible absence seizures. Also, the reading neurologist associated the findings with developmental delay associated with CHARGE. I was always under the impression that my sons developmental delay was secondary to his sensory/medical deficits. For instance, he has moderate hearing loss and didn't get hearing aids until he was about 1 yr of age. Obviously this would affect his speech causing a delay. I never thought that there was something abnormal in his brain. So can they tell that a certain EEG is indicative of developmental delays?? I feel like the neuro over read this and I really want there is an answer. Also, I don't want to be missing something bc they are so focused on CHARGE.
Brief Answer:
Charge syndrome, no epilepsy
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
the clinical evolution is in favor of CHARGE syndrome.
It is very rare thats why it is difficult to diagnose and no help can be given till symptoms appear.
Thats why no help was given till hearing loss because doesn't exist prophylactic medication.
Anyway that EEG doesn't show information to support epilepsy.
In my opinion that the EEG of a patient suffering from CHARGE syndrome.
My suggestion is to undertake brain MR.
Wush you all the best
Sincerely

And please explain to me what makes you think it is an EEG of one who has CHARGE?? Also what do you mean "MR"... Do you mean MRI?Also, what were you talking about with prophylactic med for hearing? Please just explain what part or parts of this EEG makes you think that it is consistent with CHARGE. Before you said it was a pt suffering from a metabolic disorder??? I also want to know what would have been your second "guess" if I had never mentioned CHARGE.
Brief Answer:
Just charge disease
Detailed Answer:
Dear
I understand your concern but it is impossible to predict symptoms of congenital disease.
I told you, that EEG is from a suffering brain and the diagnose is between infections versus metabolic disorder. It isn't infections as the child is health; so it is a metabolic disorder.
He may have been diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome as the EEG shows frontal lobe suffering!
That's why brain MRI needs to be done to see anatomic parts of the brain to support his function as in EEG!
I am glad you are so concerned because the only way that charge can have a long and safe live is caring for them and help them all the time!
Hope I had answered your questions,
don't hesitate to contact me for further query!
