What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 12 Feb 2016
Question: My MRI of my shoulder shows low T1 and T2 signal suggesting sclerosis within the proximal subsxapular spine which may represent a large bone island....what does this mean? I have had 3 dislocations of this shoulder and been having weakness in left arm and pain in left shoulder and neck.

Brief Answer:
A benign bone change.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A bone island is an abnormal area of sclerosis within the bone and it is not likely to cause the pain and recurrent dislocations that you are having.
It is usually a benign change and is not worrisome.
The pain and weakness that you have is likely to be related to other degenerative changes in the spine or a minor nerve root compression.
An oral muscle relaxant hot compress and local analgesic gel will help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
