Question: I was diagnosed with severe rhabdo (ck 96,000) 2 months ago. Had the usual admission and was treated with agressive ivf. Mri showed extensive edema to right thigh and myositis. Ive been f/u with specialist will have emg. Problem is no one including myself knows why this happened. I just woke up with a swollen hot hard painful right thigh. My question is its 2 months later im doing better with PT but i am still running a low grade temp and feel just mailase and my musle are restless and heavy? What is the best otc or prescription medication for muscle pain?

Brief Answer:
You probably had an infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully and this myositis was probably caused by an infection. What are your current temperatures as you seem to report low grade fevers? It would be important to see whether for real you have an ongoing infection or not. However, muscle swelling can always caused an increased temperatures.

For the pains, I will suggest that you add Ibuprofen 400mg thrice daily to your treatment plan. Also, continue to drink much water.

Let me know how well you respond to this and kindly report your temperatures to me.

Kind regards!

My WBC when last checked a few weeks ago was 13.1 just slightly elevated. My temps run 98.9-100.1 I check my temp at least twice a day usually morning and night and keep record. My pcp refuses to do or suggest anything to help with this. I've never had low grade temps lasting like this in the past all new since the rhabdomylosis. Even tho the temp is low grade I still feel very fatigued and just not myself.

Brief Answer:
Let him do a blood culture!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will suggest that he does a blood culture to make sure there are no germs in the blood system. However, inflamed muscles all by themselves could be a cause of this and not necessarily an infection. This is why it is important to do a blood culture before covering for antibiotics.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be. In the interim, continue with the Ibuprofen as suggested.

Kind regards!
