What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Question: I developed spinal stenosis symptoms several weeks ago but have now lost the ability to walk and have to use a walker. My MRI showed areas of moderate stenosis and two ruptured disks. Will be seeing my physician in a few days. Can compressed nerves in the spine cause the inability to walk?

Brief Answer:
Yes,its possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

Yes,if the spinal nerves at ruptured disc and spinal canal stenosis levels are significantly compressed, then it can lead to loss of power in lower limbs, though this is not the only reason for these kind of symptoms.(Conditions like motor neuron disease, neuritis etc can also cause such symptoms)

In your case, though, ruptured discs and stenosis do seem to be the reason for you having difficulty in walking.

I would suggest you to consult a neurosurgeon as soon as possible as this is an medical emergency.Waiting for too long can lead to irreversible effects on the nerves and permanent loss of power.

The compressed nerves need to be released as soon as possible by surgical means. This may increase the possibility of recovery of power in your legs.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
