Brief Answer:
swelling in ankles is reason for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
The swelling in the ankles is probably her reason for concern. It can be from heart failure, thyroid disease, kidney disease or cirrhosis, so it can be hard to sort out. With a history of heavy drinking she probably wants to make sure that your liver is okay. The thyroid is just a blood test. If you do not want the liver biopsy, just tell her that but make sure that you understand if she does not do it she may not know the cause for the ankle swelling.
