Brief Answer:
Could be indicative of some abnormality in the development of the brain

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Unfortunately this finding is not at all a good finding. Mild enlargement of the lateral ventricles is linked to the prenatal brain development and could be associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire surface of the brain and spine cord is bathed by a clear, colorless fluid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). When the drainage of CSF is affected, enlargement of the ventricles may result. However, since the enlargement is mild we will have to keep our fingers crossed.

Brief Answer:
Wait and watch. Hard to comment at this stage.

Detailed Answer:
Whether there would be actual problems with the baby can only be commented after the baby is born. The baby is only in the 24th week and not a fully grown one. So, the size of the brain or the ventricles too is proportionately smaller. With respect to the present fetal size I am not certain if 10mm would be the cutoff.

In any case, there is nothing that can be done at the moment. We have to wait. A subsequent ultrasonogram at near term could show that no ventriculomegaly is observable. In such a case there would be no reason to worry.
