What Does My Abdominal Ultrasound Scan Test Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, I had an abdomen ultrasound and the results were as follows: everything was fine except for a 2.7 x 1.7 x 2.2 isoechoic right lobe lesion on my liver, with hypoechoic margins. Everything else was unremarkable. Liver was normal size and contour. The impression stated that the lesion was NOT characteristic in appearance for a benign hemangioma, but recommended a three phase Liver exam. Does this mean that I have a malignant lesion? Is there anything else you can tell me about this?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

The hypoechoic lession seen on ultrasound may be an atypical hemangioma (that is a benign lesion) or a malign liver lesion.

This is why it's important to do a three phase liver exam. If you were my patient I would recommend also to do also punction biopsy of the liver lesion in case that atypical hemangioma was ruled out from three phase examinations.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
