Question: Hi,
I am a 52 year old female who has enjoyed good health for most of my life. In Oct. of 2015, I started to experience stiffness in my fingers, particularly in the morning. It gets better when I get moving. The condition continues despite rest. Sometimes I get sharp pains in some of my joints (eg. my knuckle near my hand - right index finger. In addition, I have noticed continued general stiffness throughout my body along with general malaise. My last blood test was about May 2015 with no problems. I have not exercised as much as I should. My diet is pretty good. Lots of fruits and veg. with anti-inflammatory foods. Can you please advise? Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Get advanced test done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

Symptoms you are explaining may be due to increase uric level, Rheumatoid arthritis.

You already have blood tests normal.

So I'd advice you advanced tests like anti-CCP level, serum uric acid, ESR & CRP.

Please get them done and send me the report too.

Also have cap. Indomethacin 25mg thrice a day by prescription of your doctor (as this is not over the counter drug).

Take Indomethacin 25mg instead of Ibuprofen (which you're already taking).

If any of the above mentioned tests is positive then treatment will be done accordingly.

Stop taking fish oil.

I hope you've got you're answer, please feel free to ask further.

Thanks,

Dr.CHANDER XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Hi Doctor,
Thank you for your answer and I will follow up as you advised.

But, why stop taking fish oil? I heard this was generally good practice.

Further, is eating a lot of fish generally not advised with my symptoms, or is it just the issues with the fish oil supplements?

Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Stop till the reports arrive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the response.

First let the reports come and then you can take fish oil capsules.

Some times result may get altered due to this, that's why you need to stop it for the time being.

Usually I don't as advise fish oil supplements more than 3 months as it fulfills body demands of essential fatty acids.

I don't know if you had taken for more than 3 months.
Feel free to ask further.

Thanks,
