What Does My Echo Test Result Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: I have a moderate Aortic Valve Regurgitation and mild LVH. It was found 4 years ago. Then I ask my cardio doctor who said that it was caused by age (I am 70 yrs old right now). I also consulted my doctor if I can exercise. He said yes. For 4 years I have been insisting on exercise every day with 1 hour time including slow running 20 minutes and stronger gym activities 40 minutes. And my weigh is normal, my food is good (few fat and plenty of vegetables). No hypertension. Last week I went to hospital for echo-test. The result shows that moderate Aortic Valve Regurgitation and mild LVH keep, and EF is still 55%. But added mild mitral and tri-regurgitation. Can I continue exercise as this type? What should I do to prevent the disease deteriorate?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your cardiac ultrasound findings are not concerning about any serious disorder.

I recommend you to continue your physical activity, but avoid straining physical activities and weight lifting as they impose an extra exertion to your heart.

Another advise, I would give you is to closely monitor your blood pressure. High blood pressure is the main cause of LVH and a better control can lead to stopping of its progression.

Periodically scheduled follow ups every 6-12 months with cardiac ultrasound are necessary to monitor your cardiac function and structure.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Greetings!

Dr. Iliri

Your blood pressure values seem to be within the normal ranges. I am glad that you do not have any other cardio-vascular risk factors, which is very good for your heart!

Coming to this point I recommend you to follow your actual healthy lifestyle and perform the above mentioned periodically scheduled follow ups.
