What Does My Heart Echogram Report Indicate?
I just recently had a a heart Echogram and have not spoken with the doctor yet.
The report states, "Severely dilated left atrium. Lipomatous hypertrophy of atrial septum. LA pressure indeterminate.
How serious is this?
Significantly serious-warrants further investigation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I understand your query and concern.
Severely dilated left ventricle itself signifies underlying disease process affecting the heart function.
A dilated left ventricle runs the risk of arrhythmias and thrombus formation with subsequent embolisation.
This finding requires evaluation of pulmonary function and mitral valve status of the heart to determine the cause of dilatation and subsequent treatment aspects.
Lipomatous Hypertrophy of the heart sometimes can be a normal finding in the elderly. But this finding warrants further investigation of the blood lipids in the form of serum fasting lipid profile testing.
Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.
Cholesterol total 184, HDL 73, LDL 98, and triglycerides 66.
I have an appointment with a Cardiologist on XXXXXXX , 20th.. Is this too long to wait?
Prefer preponing your appointment with your doctor.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir.
I understand your concern.
You seem to have Mitral valve disease which is responsible for the characteristic echo findings. The lesion seems to predominant mitral stenosis/narrowing with an element of mitral regurgitation/backflow of blood.
Its highly suggested that you prepone your appointment with your doctor in the month of december or at the earliest.
Your lipid profile seems very much okay at the moment, warranting no special treatment.
Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.
