default
Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,
I have received a recent report of a peripheral blood exam in which "myelocytes-1" is reported.
All other cells appear to be normal.
lymphadenopthy has not been noted.
I have had no symptomes either of discomfort or loss of function
of note is a prolonged history of enlaged spleen (about 15 cms) with no change over the past year.
fatty infiltration of the liver (no known cause for- several years- not apparently progressive). Liver enzymes AST-39, ALT-40 (most recent). These levels have not significantly changed over the past year.
Thrombocytopenia (varying between 79-100 for 5years).
Do you have thoughts or impressions about the above information?
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Myelocyte in blood may be due to bacterial infection, bone marrow disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have gone through your findings in detail.
Myelocytes are developing neutrophils in bone marrow that are not fully developed and these are released into the blood prematurely.
It is good that other cells are normal.
Myelocytes in blood may be due to bacterial infection or bone marrow disorders.
It is important to exclude bone marrow abnormalities due to other findings like
splenomegaly, thrombocytopenia etc.It is also important due to your age.
You are rightly advised for bone marrow examination.
Treatment depend upon findings.
Mild fatty liver,AST and ALT is acceptable.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
