What Does My Laparoscopy Report Indicate?
Question: Hi today is my 14th day and have two follicles at 18x18 and 17X18 sizes. As per the scan the 18x18 size follice looks like a septated follicle. My doctor has asked to take HCG shot today for iui on thursday. Pls suggest if the quality of the egg will get affected due to septation in follicle. This is my fourth iui. Laproscopy result was normal except a polyp removal.
Brief Answer:
There are two follicles....
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
The presence of two follicles close to each other may often give an appearance of a single separated follicle but that is not so. There are two follicles here. Ideally hcg should be given 10000IU on the day when the follicular size is 22mm at least , which ensures ovulation in next 36 hrs. So you may discuss with your doctor regarding today's hcg injection, if it has to be given tomorrow or day after.
Regards

Thanks for the reply. Will septated follicle produce a healthy egg? Is going ahead with iui in this cycle makes sense?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There is no spotted follicle at all. There are two follicles and the the quality of egg depends on various criteria which cannot be detected by ultrasound and usually measured only in an IVF procedure during oocyte harvesting.
IUI can be undertaken 6 times actually. The protocol is 3IUI , THEN 1 diagnostic hysterolaparoscopy, then 3 IUI again , and if all fail then IVF.
