What Does My Lipid Profile Test Indicate?

Since I was doing a blood check and same blood would be used I also asked the lab to do a thyroid profile which showed T3 at 1.52 ng/ml ( range 0.7 - 2.0) and T4 at 11.60mcg /dl (range 4.5 to 11) and TSH at 7.11 mciu/ml ( range 0.4- 4.2). For this I have been prescribed levothyroxine 50 mcg daily.
My question is levothyroxine is synthetic T4... But since my t4 is on the higher side anyway is this the right medication or will it cause even more of an imbalance... I am already struggling with my weight, hair thinning and blood pressure... I don't want to make it worse. Please help.
thyroxine is the right decision.
Detailed Answer:
dear ma'm, hi Welcome to HCM.
Weight loss is always a challenge, specially so after 40. so it is a tough fight.
with this a subclinical hypothyroid, i.e. TSH 7 further worsens the scenario.
so first thing first. we must first control hypothyroidism, and bring TSH to 1 or less. so thyroxine is the right decision. Now as of T4 already on the higher side, it can be due to total T4 being high. Free T4 which you have not done, may be normal or even low. so let us forget that for time being and treat to bring TSH to normal. your high BP can as well be attributed to subclinical hypothyroid state.
aten 50 is not the right choice in your case. it has to be either ACE inhibitor or CCB. so your doctor was right in suggesting a change.
kindly do the needful, and build up exercise to 7 days a week.
regards!
