What Does My Pelvic Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: Looking for an Ob/Gyn to answer questions on ultrasound. Pelvic ultrasound showed right ovarian volume 8.22cc (right adnexa 4.0x2.8x1.4) and left 30.9cc (left adnexa 7.2x3.3x2.5) On the report it said "Both are normal in size and appearance" .Impression from ultrasound said"Thickened endometrial echos, mid cycle endometrium versus endometrial hyperplasia or abnormal endometrial proliferation. Nonspecific left ovarian enlargement without other demonstrated abnormality." what does this mean, should i be worried about the size of the left side? Been having periods/spotting that are light but that are around 15 days long (started oct. 2014) usually have about 13 days of light spotting with 1-2 days heavy bleeding. have history of prior polyps that have been removed and history of endometriosis. 32years old 5'1 133 lbs. LMP started light on 2/3/15 BUT the heavy bleeding didnt actually start till 2/13/15 and lasted 1-2 days. I am thinking the start date of 2/3/15 is just spotting but it lasted until the start of the heavy bleeding date of 2/13/15. no other medical problems.

Brief Answer:
Explained, but uploaded report is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
The issue here as I understand is pre menstrual spotting.
See, actually the uploaded report plus images of the ultrasound scan would give me much more information versus reading the typed words that you have written.
Hence, I request you to upload the report plus images.
Based on what you have typed, I can say this -
The left adnexa ( tubes plus ovary ) appears bigger than the right, this can be a normal anatomical variant, but I need to look at the report to surmise whether there is some abnormality.
The endometrium ( lining ) of the uterus is thickened, this could indicate hyperplasia ( thickening of the endometrium ) or a normal finding ( mid cycle the lining is always thickened ) or abnormal growth.
The options are many, and I need to look at the report.
Also, on what cycle day was this scan done ?
I think you might need an endometrial biopsy to know the exact condition.
Generally it is likely to be endometrial hyperplasia , that often occurs due to hormonal imbalance, and is easily treated with cyclical progesterone therapy.
All the best

I have sent the ultrasound report, that is all i have,i can not get the images. Since i started the heavy bleeding on 2/13/15 i will say this test was done cycle day 7. my husband and i are trying to have a baby and we have had no luck yet. could this be the reason why? and could this stop me from having a baby ? if i did get pregnant could this cause problems during a pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Yes this can cause difficulty in conception.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Yes this could cause you trouble in conceiving, since the endometrium ( lining of the uterus ) would not be optimum.
You need a biopsy to diagnose the condition and then treatment would be tailored accordingly.
Well, frankly, it is nearly impossible to get pregnant with this condition, so get this treated first.
How long have you been trying for a baby yet ?
What other tests have been done so far ?
