Hello? I'm confused. I thought my question would be answered within 10 or 15 minutes. could I at least have a response letting me know when I can expect to get an answer?
Mucin is protein secreted by epithelial cells!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this kidney stone that you had. The report shows that they were aggregates of mucin, a protein secreted by epithelial cells that line the kidney tubules. Mucin is secreted all the times by these cells and maybe it just happened to have been in higher concentration due to low urine production or decreased fluid intake. There is nothing specific that you can do to prevent mucin from being secreted. My best advice is for you to drink much water all the times so that the mucin never gets concentrated high enough in urine to produce a small stone.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you for your response. I am a big worrier and when I saw a disease called
Mucin 1 Kidney disease, I got afraid that there was some connection between my kidney stone being 100% mucin and this disease. Is there any connection? Also I saw something else on line that mentioned cancerous cells secreting Mucin. This type of stone doesn't develop into cancer does it? I'm sorry if I sound kind of crazy. It's just that I see things on the internet that seem similar and then it scares the heck out of me. So, this type of kidney stone is no worse than any other? Thank you for your patience.
Best Regards, XXXX
I have to stop looking at the internet! Now I saw something called mucinous carcinoma
n.
An adenocarcinoma in which the neoplastic cells secrete significant amounts of mucin.
Is there any connection here? I'm sorry to keep bothering you!

"Mucins are under investigation as possible diagnostic markers for malignancies and other disease processes in which they are most commonly over- or mis-expressed." From Wikipedia. Could my mucin kidney stone be a diagnostic marker for malignancies?
Please, relax and don’t hurt yourself!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for these follow up questions.
I can see you are taking this over the board. Please, avoid al these internet sites that provide generic information. I can see you have visited several of them and most likely more concerned of a severe condition like cancer. Cancers are really slow growing tumors and a one time finding of small kidney stone made up of mucin is not suggestive. If it were a malignancy, you would get repeated episodes and not just one. Also, other signs and symptoms of cancer like weight loss, abdominal pain, recurrent kidney infections, blood in urine, etc. would highlight this.
For now, this is not suggestive of cancer. I recommend monitoring and drinking much fluids to make sure your urine never gets too concentrated to favor gluing together of urine content that can form a stone. If we observe stones in future, then I would want to dig further. For now, there is NO REASON to raise that.
I hope this reliefs you of your fears. In all honesty, relax and do justice to yourself by not going over the board. If you have further concerns, I would gladly address them.

Keep me updated with your progress!
