What Does My Semen Analysis Test Report Indicate?
Greetings from a 31 years old me:-):-)
I have done my routine semen analysis test and following are the results:
Volume : 3ML
Color : Normal
Reaction : Alkaline
Liquification : Liquified After 1 hour
Viscosity : Normal
Actively Motile : 40%
Sluggishly Motile : 30%
NonMotile : 30%
Total Sperm Count : 60 [For only this the 'bilogical ref.range' is given and it is 50-150]
PUS Cels : 3-5
RBC's: NIL
I had done some part of browsing, and came to know that there is some isue with the liquification. Could you please elaborate me the troubles here.
Also, please let me knowwhether sluggishly motile sperm is also considered when telling the '50%' benchmark.
In short, I am a bit tensed. Could you please educate me on all the aspects mentioned here. It will be really grateful if you could tell me whether I am normal in terms of these results.
You have infection of Prostate
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query , based on the report of your semen analysis that you have posted it appears that you have delayed liquefaction of the semen due to infection .
I would analyse your semen report in detail as under .
1) The volume ,viscosity ,reaction and color are normal .
2) As regards Liquefaction of semen which is more than one hour is abnormal and needs to be treated .
Under normal circumstances semen is a thick and viscid hence sperms are unable to move forward in this thick medium .The liquefaction of the semen starts within 30-40 minutes after being ejaculated This process of liquefaction is catalyzed by an enzyme Prostatic Specific Antigen (P.S.A.) secreted by prostate ..Once the semen is liquefied active grade one sperms are able to move in forward direction into cervical canal in to uterine cavity and in Fallopian tubes to fertilize female egg to result in to pregnancy . So it is this this process of liquefaction of semen that is very vital for pregnancy .
This liquefaction process is deranged in your case due to infection of prostate .
3) As regards percentage of active motile sperms , the active motile count of 15 -20 percent is accepted as a normal count by most of the infertility centers all over the world. It is only these active motile sperms that are capable of fertilizing female egg to result in to pregnancy. Since your active motile sperm count is 40% you need not worry about the non motile count ,
4) Presence of 3-4 pus cells suggests infection of prostate and could be a cause for delayed Liquefaction ..It needs to be treated by appropriate antibiotic for 4-6 weeks.
Start taking Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily and repeat your semen analysis after 6 weeks .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
