What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017
Question: I have had an IUD in for 3 years along with my tubes tied. I'm age 40 with lots of pain, I just saw my ultrasound results which state endometrial stripe measures 8mm, is this a concern? Could this be where my pain stems from? They found no cysts which we thought it was.

Brief Answer:
Endometrial thickness is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health

Endometrial thickness can go up to 11 cm depending on the which phase of menstrual cycle you are in. So endometrial thickness of 8 mm is considered normal.
Is there any other specific findings mentioned in your Ultrasound?
Pelvic pain can arise from fibroid, endometriosis, cyst, ectopic pregnancy and infections. Ultrasound usually provides details on such pathology if present. I also recommend undergoing a vaginal swab gram stain and culture, urine analysis and culture to rule out infection as possible cause for pain.
It is also important to know the position of IUD in the uterus as misposition of IUD can cause pain.

The report said The IUD was in place and it shows no other information on the portion i got other than no abnormalities were found.
I have not had a period in the 3 years since the IUD was placed. 14 years ago i did have endometriosis. They did a lipid panel and all was normal, they dod a urine test to mske sure of infections or pregancy and all were negative..

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Even if you don't have periods for past 3 years, the endometrial thickness of 8 mm can be considered normal. A detailed evaluation of the complete USG report is necessary. If the ultrasound failed to detect any pathology and you continue having pain, then an MRI scanning is indicated.
Please be advised to follow up with your treating physician for detailed evaluation of the full ultrasound report. Meanwhile, you can take Advil 600 mg up to 4 times daily for pain.

Hope I was able to help you
Please let me know if you need further clarifications
