What Does My Ultrasound Test Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: Concerned about irregularly long periods, short cycles, and severe uterine pain when menstruating. Had CT scan and pelvic ultrasound. CT was clear and the ultrasound result was that my endometrium was 14mm doubled (don't know what that means). The ultrasound was taken 3days before full menstruation, however I was spotting prior to the test. My PCP suspects endometriosis, and is referring me to a gynecologist. Potentially for a colposcopy. Do these symptoms sound like a cause for concern?

Brief Answer:
Not worrisome. Can be treated with medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The thickened endometrium with pain during periods is suggestive of endometriosis. Calcification in nabothian cysts is a degenerative change. Both these findings are not worrisome and can be treated with the help of medicines. It is best to get a colposcopy done to rule out any polyps and a biopsy if needed. Proper hormonal treatment will help in controlling the pain and bleeding.
