I had been diagnosed of kidney stones 2 years ago, which was removed. After the above Urinalysis results, I had undergone a renal ultrasound again, which says NO stones present. But I still do not understand the TRACE of blood in the urine. Can you please explain?
very small amount of urine
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
A trace means that a very small quantity, barely detectable amount of blood was seen in the urine.
The ultrasound would not have just assessed for stones but would have also looked at the structure of the kidneys and the rest of the urinary tract. It would have identified any masses or lesions if these were present.
The fact that this is normal and there are no RBC (red blood cells) or casts seen implies that it may be related to non glomerular causes (causes not due to small tubes in the kidneys)
Causes include : (1)stones- this has been ruled out
(2)fever
(3)strenuous exercise
(4)medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen, cataflam etc
(5)mechanical trauma eg masturbation
(6)infection- not likely based on urine result
IN some persons no cause is found.
Since the urine is other wise normal, your doctor may decide to just repeat the urinalysis at a later date
With the other parts of the urine result being ok and the ultrasound normal, monitoring may be the only recommended treatment
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
