What Does Presence Of Blood In Stool After Taking Ibuprofen Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Feb 2017
Question: I took 2 ibuprofen four days ago after a night of heavy drinking. The next day I had considerable blood in my stool. It wasn't so much in the stool but on the toilet paper after I wiped. It has come and gone over the last couple of days. Any advice?

Brief Answer:
NO reason to get worried now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Ibuprofen is not the cause of this blood in stools. When Ibuprofen causes bleeding, it happens in the stomach and that blood would pass a dark and offensive in nature. Blood after wiping is often caused by a wound around the anus, hemorrhoids or bleeding from hard stools. Ibuprofen is not the cause here.

For now, monitor only. Also, have you had your screening colonoscopy? Seek further care if this happens again.

I wish you well and keep me posted!
