What Does Soreness And Numbness In Feet After An Injury Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Jun 2015
Question: My 23 year old daughter cut the back of the second toe on a piece of glass on Saturday. She and her friends cleaned it out, they think, and used hydrogen peroxide and neosporin then bandaged it up. She is still very sore and the area is red and just a little puffy. She says it looks better she also says her foot has been falling asleep all day. She lives in NYC and we are in Florida and she does not think she needs to see a doctor...is the foot falling asleep not a reason to panic?

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and I can understand your concern about your daughter.

Usually a minor injury like this ,doesn't cause any major problem but it can get infected and cause some discomfort on the foot.
Most likely the would on toe got infected and this can cause a sensation of the foot like falling asleep or pins and needles.
It doesn't seem to be of concern.
She should keep the area clean and continue to apply neosporin twice a day for few days.
If the inflammation doesn't seem to improve (it is painful, red and warm to touch ) it means that the infection is getting worse and probably she need to get it checked with a doctor.A course of antibiotic might be necessary.

If it is getting better ,then you don't need to worry. The sensation of the foot falling asleep can be just a reaction to the inflammation. If this sensation persist even if the wound is healing ,she may need to consult a physician.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.
