Question: Had dental implant surgery 2 weeks ago. Run of antibiotics ended Friday. Sunday started with swelling of left cheek. ( sinus lift was done on left) and aweful taste and smell in head but not the same inside head smell as flu. Nastier, really yuck. Pain actually minimal. Dental nurse thinks it is caused by food under denture, but no pain there it is above denture on gum line from eye tooth back. She said clean and water pick aggressively. This produced yellow pink fluid from side of gum above denture likely puss which explains aweful taste/smell. The taste and smell have subsided for the most part and only when I blow nose of "sniff". There is thick puss like substance coming out of nose which ranges in color from yellow to orange and it smells. The post nasal drip is also quite rank. The swelling has gone down and the pain is lessening. It is also stiff when I smile or move lips. So along with keeping mouth clean, salt water rinsing I apply hot pack several times per day which nurse didn't see as nessesary but I did, and believe it help break it up. I also had some bone grafting done in that area. Doctor impossible to reach and nurse isn't allot easier. Also I believe she misdiagnosed thinking smell and taste was rotted food. Should I pursue this or does it seem I am healing myself?
