What Does The CT Scan Report Indicate?
Osteoblastoma is a benign condition in the bone and requires follow up
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. An osteoblastoma is defined as a rare benign bone tumor. However it can rarely become locally aggressive and therefor confirmation and regular follow up is important if your daughter has it in the lumbar spine. A 12 mm lesion is very small and usually does not cause any significant symptoms
2. It is not a lethal tumor and neither a cancer therefore please do not get worried and get a bone scan done to confirm the condition.
3. On bone scan, an osteoblastoma shows intense uptake and that is why your doctor has requested the investigation. Once confirmed, your doctor might tell you to follow up with imaging. If the lesion shows features of growth or increase in size then it can be treated with surgery.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
Appearance of an osteoblastoma is obvious on X ray and CT scan
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. For radiologists, it is usually certain with some degree of confidence after viewing X ray and CT scan images that it might be an osteoblastoma which is a bone forming tumor.
2. Bone lesions usually have a particular pattern on X ray and CT scan ans we can tell from the appearance the likely nature of the bone lesion.
3. Since we need to confirm with other non invasive tests therefore a bone scan is required.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
