Question: Hello Sir,

I am XXXX from XXXXXXX I have putting up some issue related to my daughter which is 2 years old.

We have notice that my daughter fall down when standing and sitting regularly. after notice that we have approach to child specialist, then he advice to take EEG and MRI test.

I had gone through the both test. In MRI, nothing found. it is normal.

But in EEG, as per doctor and report, they noticed electrical disbalance in her brain, due to this it is happen.

All this report shown to Pediatric Neurologist at Appollo hospital, then doctor start the medicine Valparine 200 (doses 2.5 ml twice a day).

After 10 days of starting of medicine, we did notice that my daughter stable when standing and sitting.

But after one and half month of starting of medicine, previous symptoms again notice. We consult with doctor then he say that may be dose is insufficient now and need to increase the dose. At present doses is 5ml twice a day.

We also told to doctor that we have forget to give medicine some time in between. Then he strictly advice that please do not stop or forget to give medicine otherwise all previous doses effect is nil.

We had also do lab test of Vitamin D and Valparic Acid as advice by doctor. Value in both is below limit.

But i would like to know with you that my daughter problem as is it. Kindly advice what can i do further.

Is it again appeared due to we missed one or two dosses in between?

Is it Epilepsy??

Kindly advice.

Brief Answer:
Try not to miss any dose

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. I have gone through the details and understand your concerns.

Your daughter seems to be suffering from a condition called absence seizures which is a form of epilepsy where the child becomes suddenly unaware and unable to maintain control over what she was midway through. This is the cause of the episodes you mentioned. Please upload the reports so that I am better able to help.

Valparin needs to be continued for prolonged duration. Tolerance can develop when the same dose is no longer enough to achieve the previous effects. Missing doses can compromise the stability achieved till date. It could definitely be responsible for the episodes recurring.

Please do not worry. Regular medications can keep the condition in control. I would also suggest that you also keep her away from fire or conditions like crossing the road alone or any other situation when sudden episodes could cause any serious injury

Brief Answer:
Other medicines can be given together

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I have gone through the reports and prescriptions. The reports corroborate with what has already been discussed.

You can give other medicines like fever and cough medication or vitamins along with Valparin syrup.

You need not be looking for the best neurologist in XXXXXXX Although National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), XXXXXXX is a very good institute with quality doctors in this regard, and you can get a second opinion from there. But for the regular follow up, I would rather suggest some neurologist of local repute. I am sorry that I do not know somebody at your place and cannot help you further in this regard. I can assure you that your daughter's case is not a complicated one and chances are that your treating physician/neurologist would be able to handle the case smoothly.

Wishing you and your family health.

Regards
