You have an additional cancer risk of 1.41 %
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
The X ray doses from CT scans is as below
12 total head CT scans is 24 mSv
1 CTA is 16.4 mSv
8 chest CT scans is 56 mSv
1 neck CT scan is 7 mSv
3 abdomen CT scans 24 mSv
1 kidney CT scan 8 mSv
Total approximate radiation dose received in 10 years is 134.4 mSv. Therefore you have an additional cancer risk of 1.41 %.
In other words there is a 98.58 % chance of having no effect of the above studies.
We cannot specifically say brain cancer risks, it is risk of developing cancer any where in the body.
It is important to know why you got so many CT scans done including that of brain and chest.
Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
Please take care not to hurt yourself
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Its unfortunate that you are having a clotting disorder. The only way to avoid injury is protecting yourself from situations that can cause physical hurt to you.
Please do not worry much about the X ray exposure through so many CT scans. It will help to get X ray chest done in place of Ct scan chest.
Abdominal injuries can first be screened by ultrasound scan.
The brain needs to be protected well as in emergency CT scans is the only life saving investigation. MRI scan takes time and might not be available at your ER.
Wishing you good health.
