What Does The Following MRI Report Indicate?
My husband is 43,he just had an MRI for his brain and showed , brain cortical involutional changes(inappropriate for the patient age) with prominent cortical sulci and basal cisterns as well as mild dilatation of the supra-tentorial ventricular system.
Nb: Mucosal thickening of the paranasal sinuses, most prominent of the ethmoid sinuses, suggestive of sinusitis.
Please, tell me what does it mean?
Involutional means atrophy of brain.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. Involutional changes and ventricular dilatation means there is brain atrophy (in more general words, shrinking of brain matter loose in brain cells). It may have several causes: Dementia, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, prolonged alcohol consumption, untreated Diabetes etc. I suggest you to consult a Neurologist and discuss diagnostic tests needed to diagnose exact cause of this condition.
Mucosal thickening or sinusitis is infection of sinuses. If it is in active state (meaning if your husband feels headaches, high temperature etc) this condition needs to be treated and for this I suggest you to consult your husband's primary care Doctor.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
