What Does The Following MRI Report Indicate?

My chiropractor and a radiologist recommended I get an MRI. They see "apparent erosion on the left c6c7 articulate pillar." I'm wondering what that means, what the cause could be, and if the MRI is really necessary.
Thank you! XXXX
