What Does The Following Knee MRI Report Indicate?
Question: I had a recent mri on my knee mri for a spontaneous lump on out side of my left leg by knee with some swelling and pain. The results said : multilobulated ganglion cyst likely emanating from the posterior lateral aspect of the knee joint or the the proximal tibiofibular joint extending through a small defect in the poserior lateral capsule into the lateral subcutaneous soft tissue as detailed above. Mild associated synovitis. Under the bone and cartilage part it states:heterogeneous marrow signal likely represents red marrow conversion. no large cartilage defect.
I went to ortho who said all my symptoms not to do with cyst and maybe vascular and talked more about the marrow conversion. They have done a doppler ultrasound of leg to check for a clot and it was fine said mass suggestive of a hematoma. is the marrow conversion something to be concerned with?

Brief Answer:
Hello. Marrow conversion isn't a serious problem
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Marrow conversion and reconversion are really normal physiological processes, but it can be seen on an MRI with any accompanying inflammatory process like your ganglion cyst and the synovitis.
The cyst itself often causes pain despite what your ortho told you.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
