sir Kindly update me about normal range of alpha fetoprotien In Male.. My Father's report is Attached with messafe kindly view it and Guide me
Brief Answer:
Clinically normal levels.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Have gone through reports of your father. Level of alpha feto proteins are mildly elevated. You have not mentioned the symptoms of your father or the reason why this test has been done. However if patient is asymptomatic this minor increase in level of has no clinical significance.
AFP is one of several tumor markers. Tumor markers are molecules in the blood that are higher when a person has certain cancers. AFP is found mainly in liver cancer and nonseminomatous germ cell tumors, which are rare. Levels of AFP should be atleast three times that of normal to have any clinical significance.
" The XXXXXXX Association for the Study of Liver Diseases recommends diagnosis of HCC (cancer)in patients with cirrhosis in the presence of a mass in the liver if AFP is >200 ng/mL".
Even if we suspect Cirrhosis AFP should not be less than 500 ng/mL.
So though his AFP is mildly deranged it has no clinical significance in case he is asymptomatic.
Hope i have answered your query in detail.

Detailed Answer:
Helo,
Liver tissue normally has a uniform appearance on imaging scans. Infections, inflammatory reactions and various types of noncancerous and cancerous tumors can appear as spots on the liver.
As per the brief history given by you possibilities are-
1)Hepatic Hemangioma-A hemangioma is a noncancerous tumor composed of abnormal blood vessels. Hepatic hemangiomas are the most common type of noncancerous liver tumor.
Focal Nodular Hyperplasia
2)Focal nodular hyperplasia is the second most common type of noncancerous liver tumor.
3)Hepatic Adenoma-A hepatic adenoma is a relatively uncommon, noncancerous liver tumor.
4)Hepatic Granuloma
Hepatic granulomas represent distinct masses of inflammatory tissue that appear as spots on liver images. These uncommon, noncancerous masses sometimes form in response to infections that involve the liver.
5)Hepatic carcinoma.
Dear ultrasound is one of the basic tests of gastroenterology. Before suggesting you treatment i would suggest you to go for-
MRI abdomen.
Its a gold standard test and will rule out the exact cause of the spots appreciated in liver.
Cure can only be suggested after knowing the cause.
There is no significance of this minor increase unless MRI revaels a pathology.
Normal range in international unit/millitre is less then 5-6.
Thanks.
