What Does The Following Report Indicate?
I exercise daily
need to reduce intake of alcohol
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
I have checked your reports.
You have hyperlipidemia. Your cholesterol and LDL are high. It is risk factor for cardiac problem and diabetes. You can start any drug from statin group like atorvastatin or rosuvastatin after consulting your doctor. There is need of diet modification in which you should avoid fatty food as far as possible. It is very good that you are doing exercise daily.
Slight higher level of SGPT and GAMMA GT suggests liver function is somewhat affected due to alcohol intake.
Alcohol is also responsible for hyperlipidemia.
In conclusion reports are not bed but there is need of some modification in lifestyle to prevent ill health in long term.
You need to reduce intake of whisky not more than one peg.
To help you further I need some more information.
- What is your weight and height ?
- How much amount (ml or ounce) is there in your one peg?
- Since when are you taking alcohol?
- You should at least go for ultrasound abdomen once for checking fatty liver changes.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
I have been taking alcohol for at least last 6-7 years
I peg is normally 60 ml for me
Also instead of alochol, can I go for beer ?
And when I did this test, my cholesterol values may not be exact since I had took tea in the morning before the test and heavy food late in the night with alcohol
you need to reduce weight, cut down alcohol intake
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for information.
1 peg for you is 60 ml and 2-3 pegs daily means 120-180 ml. According to standards safe recommended limit for taking whisky in a man is not more than 50 ml per day. So you must restrict your intake of whisky up to 1 peg only.
Yes beer is quite safer than whiskey.
You can take 500 ml of beer daily according to recommended general safe limit.
In general food intake of previous day as well as tea before giving blood sample does not affect lipid profile. However you can still go for retesting with fasting blood sample in the morning.
In any case according to your height and weight your body mass index (BMI) is more than 30. Your idle weight should be around 80. You need to reduce weight with more exercise and diet modification. Please consult some dietician and physiotherapist for the same. Weight reduction will also help in reducing lipid levels.
Hope this answers your concern.
