Question: Can you assess the image attached and tell me whether you can see any pahology. My neurosurgeon is saying there isnt anything to worry about but i have been suffering a weak bladder and tight legs for many months now. I can see the small black lines off the spinal cord which concern me greatly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX s XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I have gone through the MRI spine image which you have uploaded. Yes,I agree that there are apparent tortuous vessels prominent on the dorsal surface of the cord. Possibility of an AVM or a dural fistula exists and these pathologies should be evaluated for.
Please discuss with your treating doctor or neuroradiologist ragarding confirming the same by Spinal angiography or CT angiogram.

Hope this helps. If you have some further questions to ask,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Could those lines be anything else other than an AVM or dural fistula?

Brief Answer:
CSF flow artifacts/Spinal canal stenosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX s XXXXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up.

The closest mimics of these prominent veins are-
1)CSF flow related artifacts
2)Spinal canal stenosis

So, it may actually not turn out to be AVM or dural fistula.Spinal angio or CT angio will help to approach the cause for the same.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Dr.Ajay Panwar,
