What Does The Scan Report At 30 Week Of Pregnancy Suggest?
possible left cerebral ventriculomegaly in development...
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to healthcare magic.com
It is to be understood that a lateral cerebral ventricular size of less than 10mm is normal. Anything above that is considered to be ventriculomegaly. The depth of the ventricles tend to increase in the third trimester and dependent on the cerebrospinal fluid level. The discrepancy in the size of the two ventricles is a concern which can indicate a possible third ventricular outflow tract obstruction which needs to be ruled out with a target anomaly scan or an MRI.
AT PRESENT A REGULAR 2 WEEKLY FOLLOW UP FOR THE SIZE OF VENTRICLE SHOULD PRACTICED. If the size anytime increases more than 10mm then a paediatric surgical consultation should be sought for and an opinion should be taken with regards development of hydrocephalus possibly and may require a need for in-utero intraperitoneal shunt.
Presently follow up with USG and discuss the details with your physician.

Detailed Answer:
Unfortunately nothing can be predicted at this moment. It all depends on the follow up ultrasounds as to how much enlargement we would see or may be no enlargement at all, we can't say.
So stick to the serial ultrasounds and when intervention would be required it would be needed to be done.
the dreaded concerns could be --
1. hydrocephalus
2. decreased brain growth due to compression by enlarged ventricle on one side.
3. Possible difficult delivery and obstetric morbidity.
4. if head is large caesarean would be the best option followed by immediate decompression surgery for the child.
5. sometimes possibilities of future decreased IQ in later years.
I dont want to scare you , hence just mentioned the follow up.
