Question: My seventeen year old daughter has abdominal pain in lower right side and back. they did cat scan and ultra sound. everything normal except thickening of the terminal ileum. Gastro dr. was seen Friday took blood for C-reactive protein and ES for crohns disease. Tests came back negative. Endoscopy and colonoscopy are to be done tomorrow. should she still have colonoscopy. has no bleeding or loose stool and regular bowel movements.

Thickening of the terminal ileum has to be investigated for the cause to get a perfect diagnosis and plan the further management. Only Colonoscopy can help to visualize the actual interior of the terminal ileum and to get a biopsy from the lesion. Histopathological examination will give a perfect diagnosis so that a proper management can be planned. So please go ahead with the colonoscopy irrespective of absence of bleeding or loose stool.
