What Does This 2D Echo And ECG Report Indicate Regarding Mild Mitral Stenosis?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: My wife XXXXXXX 68 , has long been diagnosed (for 25 years) with Mitral Stenosis (in addition to having Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hypothyroidism), but our cardialogist has assured us that this is mild and that we dont need to worry about it. However the recent 2D echo and ECG (reports attached) are said to show disturbing signs that require prompt attention. Can you look at these reports and tell me what's wrong?

Brief Answer:
The reports are not attached

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Mild mitral stenosis patient would survive without severe problems like a person who does not have heart disease. However in your wife case the other heart problems like Hypertension, coronary artery disease would cause more problems at this age.

Heart disease could be from Hypertension, Vessel disease, valvular heart disease, Arrhythmias. So your wife's current heart problems can be increased with the other reasons than mitral valvular heart disease.

Please upload the reports. I can view them.

I am sorry that the reports didn't get uploaded. I now send the two reports from ECG and 2D ECHO. Kindly tell me if we are looking at at problem. If so how serious or severe the problem is. And what needs to be done immediately.

Brief Answer:
2D Echo is not uploaded

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You had uploaded same ECG twice. I think 2D echo is more important here. I do not see gross changes in the ECG.

Please upload ECHO report.

Brief Answer:
As expected

Detailed Answer:
The 2D ECHO report does not say anything worrisome. The features tht it had were all expected and common for the valvular heart disease that your wife has.

I agree with your cardiologist. Unless there are concerning symptoms like swelling of both feet, short of breath, chest pain, not able to sleep at night because of breathlessness, it prompts cardiac evaluation.

I would not treat a 2D ECHO report but I treat bad symptoms in the patient. The report is not bad either.

Hope you understand the difference.
