Question: I was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm a couple of years ago which has remained the same size (about 4.4 cm). Last week an echo gram revealed severe right ventricle and right atrial enlargement as well as the inferior vena cava. Right now they have ordered a sleep apnea test which I know I do not have. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
You should be concerned about what has caused pulmonary hypertension.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

The recent Echo finding has nothing to do with the previous finding (Ascending aortic aneurysm) but are related to pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary hypertension is a sign for pulmonary disease and is manifested on ECHO with enlarged right ventricle, atrial and inferior Cava vein.

You should be concerned about what has caused pulmonary hypertension and all efforts should be done to find it out.

One of the causes of pulmonary hypertension is sleep apnea. This is why your doctors are going for a sleep study. My advice is to have patience till all examinations are done.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

Brief Answer:
Following answer to your query.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Yes if you were my patient I would recommend heart catherisation and pulmonary ct angiography to determine the exact etiology of pulmonary hypertension.

Meanwhile I encourage you to continue with light to moderate exercise, because this is of great help in the management of your problems.

Wish you health!
