Brief Answer:
Biopsy followed by staging

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through the report

FNAC of left breast suggest she is having breast carcinoma.

I would advise you to do a biopsy test which is the confirmatory test to prove that there is malignancy.

Biopsy samples are sent to a laboratory for analysis where experts determine whether the cells are cancerous.

A biopsy sample is also analyzed to determine the type of cells involved in the breast cancer, the aggressiveness (grade) of the cancer, and whether the cancer cells have hormone receptors or other receptors that may influence your treatment options.

She also needs to find what stage of breast cancer she is suffering from.

For that she has to do CT scan of chest, CT scan of upper abdomen and a bone scan.

Brief Answer:
Cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Cells suspicious to be cancerous has been found in her left breast as per this report though it is not confirmed.

Breast carcinoma is cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts.

That is why biopsy test is required to rule out malignancy.

Removing a sample of breast cells for testing which is called biopsy is needed at this moment.

I would also advise an ultrasonography of her left breast.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of structures deep within the body.

Ultrasound may help distinguish between a cancerous solid mass and a fluid-filled cyst.

We got the following tests done
1. Breast Mammography (Report attached)
2. FNAC of left breast (Report attached)

Doctor has advised to get the PET scan of the whole body.
Can biopsy lead to more rapid spread in case the cells are indeed cancerous? Are there any other side effects of biopsy?

please check the attachment too.

Answered by Dr. Monish De (18 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
biopsy does not lead to spread

Detailed Answer:
Hi

The mammography report is normal so do not loose hope.

FNAC report suggest malignancy but is it not confirmed.

Biopsy is the confirmatory test to rule out malignancy so you have to do it.

Biopsy does not lead to spread of cancer cells and biopsy leading to rapid spread is a myth.

PET scan is costly and that is why you can do CT scan of chest, upper abdomen and bone scan for staging of the breast cancer.

But first you must do the biopsy test to rule out malignacy.

If you have no more clarifications then please rate the answer and close the thread.

1. Regarding the biopsy, how big or small the procedure is
2. Is it intrusive and does it required hospitalization.
3. Should we do PET scan before biopsy or after biopsy, is PET scan is confirmatory test or PET along with biopsy is required.
4. Can PET scan replace the ultrasound you are suggesting?

Answered by Dr. Monish De (20 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Biopsy along with PET scan is the confirmatory test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Biopsy is a small procedure.

It does not reqire hospitalization.

A radiologist or surgeon uses a thin, hollow needle to remove tissue samples from the breast mass, most often using ultrasound guidance.

Several samples, each about the size of a grain of rice, are collected and analyzed to identify features indicating the presence of disease.

Depending on the location of the mass, other imaging techniques, such as mammography or MRI, may be used to guide the positioning of the needle in a core needle biopsy depending on the location of the mass.

Biopsy must be done before PET scan.

Biopsy along with PET scan is the confirmatory test.

PET scan can replace ultrasound.

There is still hope

Hi

Yes you can get in touch with me whenever you need and ask me questions directly.

Nothing has been proved yet and that is why biopsy test is needed to rule out malignancy.

For now you can close the thread.
