Brief Answer:
It is very important to quit drinking alcohol.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked the attached reports and prescriptions. However, I would need to ask whether your uncle is an alcoholic. He has a subacute hepatitis which is the cause of the jaundice. If he is an alcoholic it is high time that he quits. Unless he does so, there is a propensity to develop fatty liver which is not a good sign.

I would also need to ask whether he is diabetic. Based on your inputs I would be able to comment on the possible cause.

He has to eat light diet with less of oily food. Tea is secondary and would not matter much. Papaya can be given.

Please continue the medicines as directed. However, contrary to popular belief Liv 52 does not help.

I would await your response.

Brief Answer:
Not a state of emergency but needs rest.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to respond faster. The present condition is not a state of emergency but nevertheless needs rest for the healing to occur. Apart from that abstinence from alcohol is advisable. Light diet low in fat is to be preferred. These are the precautions to be followed.

Answered by Dr. Prof. Kunal Saha (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Entirely different things

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

The mentioned medicines are entirely different. Metadoxil (Metadoxine) is used to treat acute and chronic alcoholism. You can give it in case you need to deal with the problem of alcoholism. XXXXXXX Tablet contains Silymarin whish is supposed to have protective action on liver cells. I doubt if you need to give XXXXXXX However, XXXXXXX would not help in reducing alcoholism.
