Tear in the medial meniscus is the cause of pain. It can be treated
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
Since you developed the pain recently, it could be attributed to the tear in the posterior horn of medial meniscus cartilage.
This can be treated by arthroscopic removal of small torn portion.
Discoid meniscus is congenital and will stay for life. Nothing to worry. It won't cause much pain as you are experiencing. That pain is mainly due to tear of the other meniscal cartilage in the knee.
Do get consult with a trained Sports Medicine specialist for better remedy and arthroscopic treatment.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Surgery usually required
Detailed Answer:
It's a small tear and usually requires surgery to get that small piece removed. You can try without surgery with the help of physiotherapy, guarded weight bearing, ultrasound therapy etc.
