What Does This MRI Report Indicate?
I have following impression of MRI
1) Full thickness supraspinatous tendon tear with retraction.
2) Partial articular surface tear with interstitial fluid in infraspinatous tendon.
3) Rotator interval fluid.
4) SLAP III with globular altered signal in anteroinferior labrum.
What is the problem and how it can heal? If repair/surgery is needed what type of surgery is best and how much cost i will expect?
Thank u
Surgery is definitely required
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
According to the MRI Report, you have a complete tear of one of the tendons of the muscles needed to lift your arm with associated inflammation and fluid collection due to the injury and also labral or shoulder cartilage tear.
The complete tear of Supraspinatus tendon usually does not heal on it's own and needs to be repaired otherwise it can cause chronic pain and severe weakness in lifting and keeping the arm lifted.
You will need a repair of the Supraspinatus tendon and debridement or repair of the labrum or cartilage of the shoulder joint as necessary by key hole arthroscopic surgery or open technique.
These days key hole arthroscopic surgeries are the best option in the hands of trained Arthroscopic surgeons or Sports Medicine surgeons.
Arthroscopic procedure is done using thin and long scopes with tiny cameras which pass through a very tiny incision so that the scar formation and infection rates are very less as compared to the open technique which requires bigger surgical incision and more chance of infection. The cost can vary among various surgeons and hospitals but is usually in the range of Rs. 70000 to Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs. The open surgery will be comparatively cheaper.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
Thanking you.
