What Does This MRI Report Indicate?
Question: I had an mri on my lumber spine it says there is a patent S1,S2 with probable transitinol lumbosacral vertebra there is reduced signal and height in the L1-2 disc, there is left posterolateral annular bulging with an associated annular tear this goes on with each disc some impingements on descending nerve root this goes on and on with each disc and it also says L5-S1 disc with anterior osteophytes and there is a broad-based shallow central disc protrusion posteriorly with a central annular tear this disc extrudes slightly behind S1 and impinges on the thecal sac, my doctor gave me this report with no explanation just told me to make a hospital appointment, im worryed and confused and dont understand any of this! All i know is im in alot of pain please help explain some of this? I was in RTA im a cyclists who was hit by a car and im really worryed it could be serious,

Do you have pain radiating from your lower back to your legs?
Do you have weakness, tingling or numbness of your legs?
The MRI Report says that you have numbness level slip disc which is closing your nerve roots which can be a cause of the pain that you may be experiencing. Annular tear means that the outer part of the disc is degenerated and torn and hence the disc has slipped and pressing on the nerves in your back.
The treatment depends on your symptoms and signs. If you have any neurological disturbances as I have asked in my queries, decompression surgery in the form of Laminotomy, Laminectomy, Discectomy may be done on the lower back. If no neurological compromise, a simple Epidural steroid injection may be given.
Every Doctor prescribes the treatment based commonly on his or her own resistive b but in keeping with current literature. So kindly do listen and discuss the treatment with your Doctor carefully.

thank you for your answer and i have pain in my lower back n legs n weakness n numbness and tingling, my left hand also keeps going numb i had an injury to elbow n leg and hip i was assuming this was causing the numbness, i also have had trouble with my swollow i can only manage soft foods and it being 3weeks since the accident, im wondering now if all could be connected to my after the mri
