What Does This Blood Test Report Indicate?
Question: Routine blood test revealed alp level 141 and calcium level 10.1. Doctor not too concerned but wants me to retake in a month. I'm afraid it may be something like bone cancer. He also said the test showed liver enzymes not a problem so it's a bone issue. Not sure what to do. Are these levels consistent with cancer?
Brief Answer:
Not confirmed. Will need further tests
Detailed Answer:
The tests are very general tests and lots of conditions can cause the test to be in that range. ALP is not so high so as to worry about bone cancer.
However, I would suggest that the tests should be repeated. I would also suggest testing albumin globulin and creatinine if not already tested.
I think the doctor is considering multiple myeloma. And it will need time to diagnose them.
I havetried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal

Are you suggesting that these levels are in fact a result of multiple myeloma?
Brief Answer:
Tests done are not confirmatory. Needs further testing
Detailed Answer:
No.
I am saying that these tests are inadequate to confirm malignancy. I have said ALP can be high in any bone condition like infection , osteoporosis etc.
And high calcium can be due to supplements food based or tablets.
I have suggested a few tests to rule out a possible myeloma. And if you are thinking bone cancer, a bone scan will help . so further tests are needed.
I hopethat the information will resolve the confusion.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal
