Leukoaraiosis / UBOs are common findings in normal MRI Scans.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. These White Matter Hyperinensities (WMH) also termed as Leukoaraiosis or UBOs (Unidentified Bright Objects) are commonly seen in normal MRI Scans.
2. These represent areas of nonspecific damage thought to be caused by hypertension, exposure to tobacco, alcohol, diabetes, increased viscosity of blood and so on.
3. They are even seen in young people, apparently without any symptoms.
4. Currently there us no active treatment. A wait & watch protocol is followed. Check your blood pressure, sugar levels, homocysteine level, Lipid profile, avoid exposure to tobacco and alcohol. It is not clear at present whether these predict an increased risk of stroke.
5. Hence the current significance is doubtful. I have seen these is so many patients, including many young people over the years, without any consequence; that you can safely ignore these findings as of now.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
HRCT Temporal Bones is recommended.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. HRCT Temporal Bones is recommended if an MRI has been done.
2. Bone is seen clearly on CT Scans while bone is invisible on MRI Scans. Soft tissue is seen better on MRI Scans.
3. A lot depends upon the exact ear problems faced by you and the nature of the ear trauma.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
