What Does This Lab Report Indicate?

Question: hallo doctor, i have been having very bad itchiness at my private part and after several trips to the doctor my gynaecologist asked me to do several tests and the results were gram positive cocci, epithelial cells (few) and pus cells(few) what does this indicate? or what am i suffering from coz am yet to see the doctor?

Hello,

Thanks for writing here.I can understand your concern.

Clinical symptoms of severe itching along with lab findings of cocci and epithelial cells point towards bacterial vaginosis.It commonly affects females.A decrease in count of vaginal lactobacillus is responsible for this infection.

Frequent douching,lack of condom during intercourse, change of sex partners are probably some of risk factors for this disease.

All treatments which you have taken previously are for vaginal thrush.Metronidazole either in oral or topical form will help to relive this condition.I
