What Does This Stool Test Report Indicate?
Question: Hi, my son is 2 months and has been passing watery green stools for 3 weeks now. The stool test results suggested abundant bacteria, mucus present and increased pus cells hence the doctor gave Walamycin 2.5 ml twice for 5 days. It has been 4 days since the course is over and the baby is still passing green watery stool. Please suggest the next course of action
Brief Answer:
Stool culture and sensitivity
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. I would recommend you to get your son's stool culture and sensitivity done. Start him on Cefixime drops ( 10 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses) after this. You may upload the reports for my reference.
Also, give 2.5 ml Syp. Zinconia once a day for early recovert.
Ensure exclusive breastfeeding to maintain good hydration and immunity.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care

Cefixime drops were given to him by the doctor initially but due to our ignorance it was given only once. Later after 10 days the dose was completed but we had moved to a different city and the new doctor said since initially the course was incomplete baby must have developed resistance to it. Stool test was done after this. Am attaching reports for your reference. Then he gave Walamycin and this course was completed 4 days back but the baby is still passing green watery stools. I asked the doctor and he said it might take a couple of days more. Should I get another stool test done?
Brief Answer:
Yes, a repeat atool routine and culture is required
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Babies do not develop antibiotic resistance with such short irregularities in drug dosages. Cefixime is a good and very effective drug for such cases. I would recommend you to continue as planned in our earlier discussion.
Repeat stool routine will help us to determine whether the infection is still present or it's just a post diarrhoeal gastrocolic reflux which settles without any treatment.
Culture and sensitivity will help in determining the exact bacteria responsible and it's sensitivity to antibiotics. This will help in determining the most appropriate line of treatment.
Give Syp. Zinconia as well.
