Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: I have had a transvaginal ultrasound and this was the result the uterus is normal in size. It is retroverted. The myometrium is heterogeneous but no focal fibroid formation seen. The endometrium is regular and measuring 2 mm in width there are no abnormalities of the ovaries. There is no pelvic mass or free fluid.

Retro vertex uterus with heterogenous myometrium

What does this mean

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear!
Thanks for your query.
Retroverted uterus means the uterus is tipped backwards so that it aims towards the rectum instead of forward towards the belly.
This is in contrast to the slightly "anteverted" uterus that most women have, which is tipped forward toward the bladder, with the anterior end slightly concave.
And is a normal position of uterus.

Heterogenous myometrium with no focal fibroid formation is non specific finding on ultrasound ,means that is normal .
Such findings on ultrasound (HETEROGENOUS MYOMETRIUM)can be due to adenomyosis, endometeriosis or even extremely small fibroidal deposit which have not yet developed into fibroid.
But to have such diagnosis (adenomyosis or endometriosis )you must have symptoms related to this.

Overall transvaginal ultrasound is normal finding .

Be happy dont worry
